This video shows how as children develop an appreciation on their inner mental world, they think more about themselves. They mention concrete characteristics like, names, physical appearance, possetions and typical feelings and behaviors are emphasized in their self-descriptions when they are 5 to 7 years old. In the video a little girl said, â€Å" I like to sing, ride my bike, go to swim in a swimming pool, my teacher’s name is Miss. Fargo, she is pretty nice to me, my favorite subject in school is math†. Complex Relationships Between Characters in A Dollhouse by Henrik Ibsen A Dollhouse by Henrik Ibsen is the story of one woman’s struggle to free herself from a world of guilt and false livelihood. The story is based on the author’s own account of a fellow friend and journalist named Laura Peterson Kieler who was burdened with a hidden crime just as Nora, the main character, is(Ibsen, 1785). According to Ibsen, Kieler illegally borrowed money with the help of a bank associate by forging the signature of her wealthy father. The money was used to pay for her ailing husband’s medical needs. For example, Torvald calls Nora his â€Å"little lark†(Ibsen, 1668) and â€Å"little squirrel†(Ibsen, 1668). Although this simple name-calling may be considered romantic and loving, there is a hidden side to both characters that is concealed in these childish actions. Helmer grows accustom to being the father figure to Nora and in essence begins to believe in its false meaning. Their relationship is need-based not only from a financial standpoint but from the need for future respect as well. Answer: Introduction: Social service is known as those activities which are related to human services and performed to promote the health and well being of people. The main of social service is to become the society more self sufficient, reduce the dependency on others, strengthen the relationship among members of society, and restore the families, communities, and society[1]. In Singapore, social service organizations provide their service to all age groups for the purpose to build strong and developed society. For example services provided to childrens who belong to families with lower income, services related to youth and families, childcare, and they also provide services to elder person and disabled persons. Various types of services are provided in Singapore such as counseling to individuals, family in need, accommodation and other kind of support needed by individual[2]. In this paper, discussion is held on the topic of issues faced by social workers in Singapore during period of post-independence that were 1960s to 1980 and issues faced by social workers today. Subsequently paper is concluded with brief conclusion. Issues faced by social worker during early years of post independence: Social service sector in Singapore continued to grow and the government needs contribution and help of others for the purpose of coordinate the various social service. In 1958, Woon Wah Siang, the director of social welfare held meeting and called forty heads of Voluntary welfare organizations (VWOs) for the purpose of discussing the formation of new statutory body. This meeting results in formation of the Singapore Council of Social Service (SCSS). All the contributions of VWOs by bringing all the communities and organizations together for service provided to community and individual was promoted by SCSS and this was the main purpose of SCSS. All these things facilitate the government to providing some essential services to the society such as housing, healthcare, education, and they also provide support to the Social Welfare Department for the remedial work[3]. SCSS introduced the Housing and Development Board (HDB) in 1960. This board builds one new house in every 45 minutes and achieves its goal of building 26000 flats in three years of their incorporation. In 1963, Yang di-Pertuan Negara Yusof Ishak head of the state, declare that housing problem in Singapore was solved. Till the period of 1964 they build 51000 new houses, and they are able to provide home to almost quarter of the population[4]. In 1959, almost 1.6 million citizens were homeless, 300,000 lived in squatters, and 250,000 lived in slums. Within the period of three days HDB offer home to every applicant[5]. In 1950 and early 1960, Singapore faced racial riots and political strife which results in poverty and divided society in close knit communal groups which are pulling the country in different directions. For survival Singapore has to deal with various social, political and communal problems. In 1960, Peoples Association (PA) was introduced for the purpose of encouraging racial harmony and social cohesion, and they also help in building the nation. Meetings are held in community grounds and various ethnic, religious, and language groups participate in these meetings. PA also provides platforms to residents for conducting social and recreational activities. In 1965, they get success when after the short period of federation with Malaysia they secured their sovereignty under the People Action Party (PAP). Members of this party were impressed by the socialist ideas of British community, and they also faced competition from their rivals[6]. This party frame number of policies related to economic, political and social aspects which have great effect on the subsequent development of the country. Generally, PAP focuses on economic development of the country, and allocates very few resources for social development. PAP approach towards social policy is completely different from Britain and other European Countries. PAP frames such social policies which indirectly serve in economic development of the country instead of meeting the social needs of the people[7]. The major social policies farmed by PAP were public housing and social security. The result of this housing policy was amazing because 80% of citizens live in dwellings built by the government of Singapore. System related to social security in Singapore was very different from European countries and other countries. Government does not provide any social insurance to the citizens, and instead government promoted the CPF which was mandatory saving scheme[8]. Housing po licy and social security policy highly contributes in social success of the country, and even after so many difficulties Singapore shows growth of almost 9% per annum[9]. In 1965, when Singapore became independent then there was environment of joy in the nation, but there are number of issues such as welfare relief, rehabilitation, and medical care. SCSS try to develop system which independently deals with these issues and they also put efforts to solve these issues. Between the period of 1960 and 1970, and various VWOs are set up by the SCSS to meet the needs of different individuals in the communities. There are number of organizations which are set up during this period of time such as Churches Counselling Centre (CCC), Singapore Association for Mental Health (SAMH), and Boys Brigade in Singapore and Singapore Children Society. Before the period of 1971, disabled childrens were not able to attend the school but after that period education system was reviewed for the purpose of disabled childrens. In 1971, Singapore Association of Social Workers (SASW) was established. This organization represents professional social workers in Singapore[10]. Issues faced by social worker today: In 1960, the economic development of the Singapore was achieved because of the efforts made by the government and the people of Singapore. Both government and citizens of Singapore was realized that he main asset of Singapore was human resource capital of the country, and firstly Singapore is depend on its human resource and secondly on its foreign investors resources[11]. In this era of time, the main issue faced by social workers is housing problems faced by their clients. There are number of social workers who feel that they are not able to much help of their clients, and many see their clients as victim of the policy flexibility. Social workers stated that it is necessary to review the housing policies of the country because there is income ceiling which must be qualified by the person for getting rent premises, and rent for premises increase in case person crosses the income threshold. There is also one more requirement which is applicable on lower income group that is defined the family units. Social workers further stated that there is need to rethink on the policy related to housing such as only one or two room flats are provided on rent regardless of size of the family[12]. When person buy home then he is making long term financial investment which means that person is continuously employed for the period of 25 years to 30 years, and sometimes both the partners working for the purpose of purchasing home. One more study presented the effect of debt relief in case of low income groups, and policy was initiated last year by Methodist Welfare Services, and in this policy one-time debt-relief was provided to hundreds of households. There is one more issue faced by social workers in Singapore, and that is social workers feel ill equipped while dealing with the clients related to sexual minorities, and these social workers further stated that they had no training to deal with lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) issues. Two reports were published on this issue by separate researchers. First report was published in the International Social Work journal on last November, and this report was published by six authors from universities and voluntary welfare organisations, including the National University of Singapore and Ang Mo Kio Family Service Centre[13]. This paper highlighted the issued faced by social workers while dealing with such cases. Conclusion: In this we discuss the different issues faced by social workers in Singapore during different periods of time and how social service sector was developed in those circumstances. We also state how different organizations and various groups contribute in the development of social sector in Singapore. For the purpose of dealing with these changing trends and issues in different environments it is necessary that social worker become familiar with these social trends. Understanding Place Value Decimals, Large Numbers, and Easy Charts SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips How do you read 4,349,394.382? What does each digit mean? How do you know what number means what? With place values, that’s how! If you don’t understand how decimal place values work, a number like that can look like a bunch of nonsense. In this article, we’re going to cover what place value is, why you need to know it, and how to work through place value problems to better understand large, complex numbers with ease. What Is Place Value? Let’s start with the basics. Place value refers to the meaning of a single digit in a specific position in a number. Unfortunately, that definition doesn’t make a whole lot of sense without an example, so let’s look at a number: 14. We know that number is fourteen, just as we know that 14 is the number that comes between 13 and 15. We can even break it down further- 14 is 4 more than 10. 10 + 4 = 14. Clearly, the different digits- the individual numerals that form a number- mean something. The 1 doesn’t mean 1, it means 10. That’s because the 1 in 14 is in the tens place. It tells us how many tens are in a number. So in the number 14, there is one ten and four ones- 10 + 4 = 14. If we change that 1 to a 2, we get 24, or twenty-four. The number 2 in the tens place tells us there are two tens. Each place value is 10 times larger than the place value to the right of it. So when we look at a number like 4,349,394.382, our example from earlier, we can see that there are: 4 ones 9 tens 3 hundreds 9 thousands 4 ten-thousands 3 hundred-thousands 4 millions That gives us a better idea of how to read the number aloud. It’s four million, three hundred forty-nine thousand, three hundred ninety-four. But what about all those digits to the right of the period, or decimal point? Those digits represent parts of one. Imagine this number represents the number of leaves on a particularly big tree. The .382 might represent a fraction of a leaf- perhaps one that’s been nibbled on by bugs. So how do we read those numbers? In the same way we read all the others, except the digits represent fractions of a whole. The digits to the right of a decimal point work almost exactly the same way, except there is no â€Å"ones† equivalent. We end the place values representing fractions with â€Å"th,† so instead of tens, hundreds, thousands, the numbers to the right of a decimal are tenths, hundredths, thousandths. More specifically, in our example, .382 equates to: 3 tenths 8 hundredths 2 thousandths Or, read aloud, three hundred eighty-two thousandths. The same rule holds true of numbers to the right of the decimal: each place value is ten times the place value to the right of it. Ten thousandths equal one hundredth, ten hundredths equal one tenth, and ten tenths equal one whole. Put the whole number together, and you get four million, three hundred forty-nine thousand, three hundred ninety-four and three hundred eighty-two thousandths. It may sound confusing, but once you’ve spent a little time with it, it’ll become second nature. Just remember that a digit’s place value represents the meaning of a single digit and that every place value is 10 times larger than the place value directly to the right and you’ll be on the right track. Why Do You Need to Know About Place Values? All of this can seem pretty complex. Why do we even need to know place values? Place values become increasingly important as you work more frequently with decimals and large numbers, because without understanding place values, you’ll have a really difficult time understanding how to read them. Place value is also really important in solving word problems. If a word problem says that somebody bought one thousand and four tacks, you might write that number as 1,400, 1,040, or 1,004 if you don’t understand place values. Only one of those answers can be correct, and you’ll have a much easier time of understanding those kinds of problems with a solid grasp on place values. Place Value Chart One of the best ways to learn place value is using a chart. You can write the different place values along the top and line the digits of numbers up with their correct position on the chart. Here’s what a place value chart might look like, though you can include more or less columns depending on the number you’re working with. Hundred Thousands 0 Ten Thousands 0 Thousands 0 Hundreds 0 Tens 0 Ones 0 Tenths 0 Hundredths 0 Thousandths 0 Ten Thousandths 0 Let’s try filling out a chart with an example number, like 156,412.5485 Hundred Thousands 1 Ten Thousands 5 Thousands 6 Hundreds 4 Tens 1 Ones 2 Tenths 5 Hundredths 4 Thousandths 8 Ten Thousandths 5 We took each digit and wrote it into its proper place. Now if we have a question about what any digit represents, we can answer it quite easily. For example, the 6 in this number represents 6 thousands. This is especially useful when dealing with numbers that contain zeroes. Let’s take this chart and turn it into a recognizable number: Hundred Thousands 3 Ten Thousands 0 Thousands 3 Hundreds 0 Tens 0 Ones 5 Tenths 0 Hundredths 0 Thousandths 3 Ten Thousandths 0 Remember, having a 0 in the place value of a number doesn’t mean that you skip it- it means that there are zero of that particular value in the number. 104 means that there are no tens, just one hundred and four ones- you can’t write 14 instead of 104 just because there’s a zero in it. So in this case, the number would be written 303,005.003. We can drop the last zero since nothing follows it. It might be tempting to write 335.3, but, as you can see, that’s a very different number from 303,005.003. Understanding place values helps us hold a place for the value that goes into that spot! Place Value Example Problem Let’s work through some example place value problems to get a better handle on how place value works. What Is the Place Value of the 4 in the Number 1,459.235? First, we have to write the number into our place value chart. The decimal will always fall between the ones and tenths place, so we write the nine in the ones place and the 2 in the tenths place, and fill the rest out from there. Hundred Thousands 0 Ten Thousands 0 Thousands 1 Hundreds 4 Tens 5 Ones 9 Tenths 2 Hundredths 3 Thousandths 5 Ten Thousandths 0 The question asks the place value of the 4. We look at the digits in the chart to find the 4 and see that it’s in the hundreds position. That tells us there are 4 hundreds, so the place value is 400. What Digit Is in the Thousandths Place in the Number 6,872,485.495? This one is a little different. The number is larger, so we’ll have to extend our chart a bit to fit it. Once again, you can start with the numbers on either side of the decimal, so 5 goes into the ones box and 4 goes into the tenths box, then fill out the rest of the chart from there. Millions 1 Hundred Thousands 8 Ten Thousands 7 Thousands 2 Hundreds 4 Tens 5 Ones 5 Tenths 4 Hundredths 9 Thousandths 5 This time we need to figure out what digit is in the thousandths place. Find the box labeled â€Å"thousandths† and see what number is next to it. It’s 5, and since we’re only asked for the digit rather than the place value, that’s our answer. What Number has 4 Thousands, 0 Tens, 3 Hundredths, 0 Ones, 5 Hundreds, and 6 Tenths? Notice the zeroes in this question- that’s where things start to get difficult. We’ll use a chart to help us figure it out! Fill the proper columns, but pay attention, because the numbers are out of order. Hate Speech and the First Amendment - Research Paper Example The United States First Amendment gives people the right to speak even if the listener of the conversation does not agree with you or feels that the speech is hateful or offensive. The protection also covers even the most offensive and controversial speech from any suppression by the government and permits only minimum regulation of the same through limited circumstances. The implication of this legal provision in the United States constitution is that a person may be charged with an offence related to hate speech only if the statements uttered by that person constitute a threat or provocation of immediate violence. It also means that even in cases where the speaker of the intended hate speech threatens violence or intended violence, he may only be criminally prosecuted if there is a law that is drawn to apply to the situation in an appropriate manner. The United States government though faced with problems in the definition of hate speech has always endeavored to create laws and policies that discourage indecent behavior as well as creating laws that though do not define hate as crimes or acts. This means that the law tends to regulate acts rather than speech as was evident in the case of R.A.V. v. City of St. Paul, 505 U.S. 377 (1992) where the US Supreme Court debated about the burning of cross by the radical Ku Klux Klan and whether it was a sign of hate speech (Gerstenfeld 10). The superior court in this instance overruled the Minnesota law which it found to be unconstitutional as it violated a youngster’s First Amendment free speech rights. In Wisconsin v. Mitchell, 508 U.S. 476 (1993) where a white boy was beaten by black teenagers, the debate about the magnitude of the penalty was ruled by the Supreme Court. It held that an increased penalty did not violate the free speech rights of an accused person and therefore the courts could enhance the penalty. From the foregoing discussion, it can be said that the United States constitution which defines hate speech as speech that maligns a person based on the parameters earlier mentioned receives the protection of the First Amendment. The summarized stage from birth to 2 years is not significant for consideration due to lack of ability to distinguish between commercials and other TV programs which appears in the second stage (2 – 6 years). In this stage, children don’t tend to deconstruct contradictions in their opinions and are not able to tend difference between their own belief and another point of view thrust on them. At the age of 6 – 8, children are aware of existence of opinions which may differ from their own beliefs, but do not exhibit the ability to actually think from another person’s perspective. At the fourth stage (9 – 10 years), children are able to accept another point of view, but are not able to consider situations as an impartial side. Children at this stage are able to understand advertising intent and recognize bias in advertising. However, they have no defenses against advertising. At the final stage (since 11 years), teenagers are able to set up hypotheses and take into account all possible options. They have already got some knowledge of advertising tactics and appeals. As evident from this analysis, the most defenseless element here is children aged by eight. However, they are allowed to make just a simple consumer choice and strictly limited financial resources. As for elder children, they have more substantial financial recourses and considerable freedom. Besides, they may influence parents’ choice in areas such as electronic devices etc. Some people argue for ban against advertising. Nevertheless, there are some refutations of necessity to ban it. For example, younger children rely in their choice most on in-store experience rather than information introduced by adds. As for teenagers, they tend to use alternative sources of information, parental advice or peers’ opinions. Most researchers believe that some people have not got the certain characteristics of the final stage even during adulthood. The question arises as to not just advertising to children, but advertising to everyone. In my opinion, the most reasonable way is to control (or even ban in certain cases) advertising of goods such as cigarettes, alcohol and non-nutritious foods.

Imagine you are a family member of a man who was chained up to the back of a pickup truck and drug along a gravel road for two miles until he was dead. Then imagine how you would feel after you found out that this happened just because he was a black man. Things like this sicken me. I believe that the people that are responsible for these horrific crimes should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. That is why I strongly support hate crime laws. Now, before I dive into this very controversial subject, I should probably define what hate crime laws are so you will have a better understanding of what I am talking about. As I have understood it, hate crime laws are laws that protect certain minorities or groups from bias motivated violence and harassment, and also more harshly punish people that commit these crimes against them. As I started to do my research on hate crime laws I began to notice that there are many experts that are on my side of this issue, and very few experts that oppose hate crime legislation. According to Issues and Controversies on File some experts that do not support hate crime laws believe that these laws â€Å"perpetuate inequality among U.S. citizens†. They say that hate crime laws â€Å"single out† or pick the minorities that get the special privileges while other groups don’t get any protection. The way they see it is, â€Å"why should it be any more of a crime to attack a gay person, they ask, than a heterosexual person?†(506). It is clear from this case study that if Goldstone does not improve his performance he will lose his current management position. It is assumed that those with a high level of self efficacy, most likely developed through experience, are satisfied with his direction or are neutral as they are able to apply behavioural self management (BSM) techniques (Kanter and Schefft, 1988) and therefore feel that they require less direction.It is this group of reps which have driven the achievement of sales quotas in the second quarter. Those who want more direction are likely to be those who have a lower level of self efficacy and thus an increased need for development and mentoring. Goldstone’s inability to recognise the need for coaching and mentoring has resulted in significant problems managing two of his reps, Durkee and Puckett. He has provided Durkee with some support to help him through his personal problems, however has not addressed his performance issues.Durkee requires some coaching and m entoring to give him the skills to make the sale and build his self efficacy. He is already motivated as evidenced by his long hours and attention at sales meetings. There may be an opportunity to change his role within the sales team to better utilise his strengths to achieve targets and expectations. Puckett also needed some coaching and mentoring to assist in building her sales skills.Unfortunately Goldstone’s response to her approach for that assistance was to take away her delegated responsibility by completing the task himself which ultimately resulted in her leaving the company. Goldstone is also having problems managing Skrow, his branch’s top performer. Goldstone managed the conflict situation at the first sales meeting poorly when Skrow openly criticised the new investment products. Improvement Opportunities I have identified two specific improvement opportunities to undertake if I was Goldstone. Firstly I would develop and implement a plan to improve my managerial skills and develop the required behaviours.Secondly, and concurrently, I would develop and implement a management by objectives (MBO) program (Managing People and Organisations, 2006) based on the targets and expectations set by corporate. To develop an improvement plan for my managerial skills I would initially seek some coaching from within the company. MacKinley has shown evidence of his willingness to assist and provide advice and Slake has offered his assistance on more than one occasion. I would arrange this coaching to occur on a regular basis, say 2 hours per week on the phone, and use real lif e scenarios as the basis for the coaching and advice.One obstacle that may arise is that MacKinley and Slake cannot provide coaching in all relevant aspects of management behaviour. This could be overcome by using external management consultants to supplement the internal coaching and provide a check that all aspects are being adequately addressed. The success of this coaching program could be measured through direct performance feedback from Ludlow and also utilising surveys of the sales reps to gauge their happiness with specific aspects of my management behaviour.

Wielding the talents to employ these lessons to anyone they know like family and friends, by Sharing the information in the handouts given during the lesson with loved ones, confess their faith (NEW BELIEVER’S ) and or understanding why it’s important (EVERYONE), and committing to fulfill the Great Commission once understood, in the community. Upon the successful completion of this course of study, a student could be expected to make a decision for Christ if they had not already done so. Having already done so however, a student could be expected to reaffirm their decision for a life with Christ. Each student will be given the essentials necessary to critically analyze and interpret such faith based principles such as the Covenants with God, the promise of Christ, the Great Commission, and the means to Discipleship. Upon understanding of these elements one could build a practicum within a small group to present to the rest of the class on what five things they would emphasize in witnessing to a family member or friend. I would ask that everyone submit a name to me of someone they knew that was lost spiritually, and that they could honestly see themselves having a conversation based on the practicum they submitted before presenting. Once the lesson is given, and the groups share their presentation the groups would be split up in groups of two. These groups would then use the practicum to go before one person for each two man group equally distributed according to their skill sets and witness to the one lost person of my choice. Explaining each of the lesson fundamentals with this person a summary should be written of what was discussed, and the reactions for this lost person. This summary should be brief to not fill more than five minutes but exhaustive enough to give details. Discussing the outcome would be beneficial for the class so that if a similar situation arrived for them they would have a general idea how to minister the situation. Once the findings are summarized a brief review of the lesson will be administered where the class will be allowed to answer the review questions aloud. As I look around the room, distinguishing the question to just one student will sometimes be needed based on my observations in the  last two sessions with them. From here a modest test based on the expectations and proof model will be given, no more than 15 questions. From there we will trade papers with a different partner and grade the papers discretely. I will walk around the room to ensure no one missed a large amount of questions, and if so follow-up with those individuals. Swordfish are estimated to reach maturity at 5 years and have a lifespan of about 15 years. Conservation Swordfish are caught by both commercial and recreational fishermen, and fisheries exist in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. They are a popular game fish and seafood, although mothers, pregnant women, and young children may want to limit consumption due to the potential for a high methylmercury content. Brahman, conceived from the Hindu verb brh, means infinity and greatness. Brahman was born from Brahma who is the creator, the source and the seed of all that is in this world. Brahman, due to his functions as the creator of all, is not allowed to have a lot of devotees and is thus unpopular among the Hindu pantheon since his wok demands attention, concentration and introversion. As there is no more creation, he lost his importance to other gods; Vishnu and Siva, of the Hindu trinity. He is said to be father of Manu, from whom all Hindus descended from. Brahman is the universal substrate or the absolute reality and should not be confused with Brahma, god and the creator. T hey say that Brahman cannot be known through material means, and we cannot be made to be conscious of it as he is our very own being and consciousness. Atman on the other hand refers to the true self of a person. Philosophically it is the soul either individually or globally. It could also b defined as the source o all the individual souls. It is the indistinguishable, unchanging and eternal essence. According to Hinduism, any mortal existence has an immortal aspect and this is always hidden within every created object and this includes man. Atman provides experience of the pleasures and pain of earthly life thus giving us reason to live and imparts divine possibilities and qualities. Atman being the silent partner and dweller within us and all our experiences and deeds, can only be felt when no other sensory activities impact the mind. This is attained through yoga. In Buddhism however, the cause of misery is ignorance which is a prime consequence of the belief that there exists an atman that is unchanging. Our soul or atman is identifiable readily with Brahmans greater soul. Buddhism In Buddhism, Anatta is the selfless idea of non-self. It means that everything perceived is not in the I or mine sense and thus one should not cling on to. It encourages people o develop a sense of willingness to let go at any time as these perceived objects become unnecessary to ones self. The rebirth doctrine should be well differentiated from the reincarnation theory which refers to the soul transmigration and its material rebirth invariable. Buddhism does not recognize the existence of an eternal or unchanging soul that emanates from divine essence. It is in sharp contrast to Hinduisms self awareness ideology of atman. According to Buddhism there is nothing that is fixed or permanent in our existence. Everything is subject to destruction and decay. No man should identify himself with any form or name but rather be aware of the continuous change process of becoming. In Japanese Buddhism, Satori means enlightenment. It is a surge o sudden individual enlightenment and/or awareness. It is coined from the Zen Buddhist culture and considered as the embarkation or earlier step towards nirvana. Satori can and is often juxtaposed to the term kensho meaning viewing ones nature and character. Satori however, is a deeper spiritual state than kensho. Being an intuitive experience, It has been described as a situation like waking up one day to find yourself with an extra pair of arms to later learn how to use them. Satori is commonly attained from personal experiences by the traditional use of koans like the collection found in the Gateless Gate. They are theoretical puzzles students use in assistance of Satori realization. It does not occur to individuals but rather all concept realization individuals included therein. The Zen Buddhist student need to prepare their minds first with rigorous study with koans and then meditation which clears their minds from all attachments to the physical existence. This virtue should be shown to both the dead and the living alike and is a respect that has over the years bee extended to cover other five forms; friend to friend, elder brother to younger brother, husband to wife, father to son and ruler to ruled. The respect for elders was held in high reverence in all these forms of relationships and the living stood as sons of the dead. This filial piety idea adversely influenced the legal system in china. The book of fil ial piety written in the third century is the major source of filial piety importance and it was attributed to Confucius as well as hi son. Li is a Chinese word that is extensively used in Confucianism. It meaning is rather vague but in most cases it is attached to the word ritual. I is just an abstract idea and not and object of definitive nature. It has also been described and translated s the morals, etiquette or customs. It is generally a collection of rules of proper and good behavior. It broadly deals with the entirely whole spectrum of the contacts and interaction with nature, material objects and other human beings. Li entails the norms of proper behavior socially taught to us by government officials, village elders or parents. In every great religion, three aspects are paramount; charity, faith and hope. These are the ethics, ritual and theology respectively. It should entail conservation of values and be a system that involves a world view, a philosophy and a code of ethics. Different religions have different characteristics however most features are similar in different religions and these are; specific rules of conduct, sense of community and family, ethics system, institutions that are well organized, supernatural belief and life after death, soul existence and sacred scriptures and writings. The factors and root causes that may lead people towards religious impulses are the fear of death and whatever is lying in wait beyond that. Also humans are a curious bunch and the mystery of their existence pushes them towards a spiritual angle. Since we are incapable of answering most of lifes questions, like the purpose of our lives and the immaterial or the spiritual part of us, it creates a belief towards religion as the best form of explanation. Finally one just feels the need of a spiritual conscience to the materialism of modern life. The nature of the divine varies in different religious settings. Hindus for example, often think of themselves as monothei sts worshiping various divine aspects and no various divinities. However, outsiders always see Hinduism as similar to faiths inclined to traditional polytheistic. Idealistic Religion Among the above religions, Confucianism is the most appealing while I find Hinduism the least appealing. Hinduism consists of so many beliefs with a lot of intertwined gods and goddesses. The caste system of classes is also unrealistic as all human bins should be equal and receive equal opportunities. For a very long time his has bee the factor that has served most disservice to he Hindu religion. The idea of recognizing inequalities based on the lineage, family and birth and stating it as the will of god is alarming. Though Confucianism has shortcomings as well, its ethics and morals have positive influence on the society as a whole. The teachings of Li and filial piety are greatly important especially to children growing up. It is common sense to respect and obey ones elders and putting that into law is a great way of ensuring a society with good and polite morals. It involved action internalization allowing one to be open to the sensations panoply of the experience. It maintains a healthy selflessness practices to oneself and as an example set to others. Personal approaches as well as the approaches of the at large demonstrates how these values are utilized in everything, the good and the bad, the detailed and the broad, the formlessness and the form. The rituals and practices in Confucianism are dynamic. These practices have been modified and revised in accordance to emerging societal beliefs. Though the practices are bound to change, the fundamental ideology remains the core of the religious beliefs.
